Miami Carnival Recap

This is my ?Year of Yes.? My time to celebrate my love for music, food, people, culture, and vibes in addition to saying yes to things I want to do. I knew I had to experience Carnival. It had to be fate that one of my friends sent me a text in July that said, ?Just read this article and thought of you,? along with a pic from the ?Wine, jump like a Trini? story published in the Express newspaper and the Soka Tribe URL. I eventually clicked on the link to research and sign up for a class. What do I also see in addition to this – information about traveling to Miami Carnival. From there, my dream of ?chippin down de road? became a reality.

I attended my first class at Off Road DC, met up with Shermica afterwards and asked about the trip. I had to come to grips that I would be traveling solo and staying with a group of people that I did not know. As October 6 neared, Hurricane Matthew was making its way to Florida, and I thought I was not going to make it. After a one-day delay, I was able to get down there. I walked into our vacation house and was welcomed with open arms and smiles ? again, people I didn?t know. The VIBES were amazing. The next 3 days were filled with memories that I will never forget.

Forever indebted, Erica
