Closing the Year at the KenCen

We're ending 2023 on a high note! On December 12, 2023 we returned to the REACH at the Kennedy Center with THREE (!!) classes plus a mini-fete – all at no cost to the community.

As part of the Dance Sanctuaries initiative, revelers of all ages, sizes, cultures, and experience levels came through to build 5 HOURS OF SOKA TRIBE VIBES, with music from DJ Precious Layne and steel pannist extraordinaire, Khandeya "Kay" Sheppard. Chief Addi kicked off the day for mini masqueraders with our new Kiddie & Me Class (which you can enjoy at home on-demand), because you're never too young to soca! Afterward, Chief Nikki led revelers through our signature Soka Tribe Class, complete with a road section and saucy, but simple moves. Then, for the certified bacchanalists, Convoy Superstar Raeya sprinkled some Big Bad Soca choreo on the whole place. Finally, it was all waistlines on deck for an open hour of soca, showing off all the moves we just learned because de vibes cyah done!

The Soka Tribe series was presented as part of the Dance Sanctuaries initiative at the REACH at the Kennedy Center which offers a wide range of dance classes and styles to the public at no cost in an effort to make dance training more accessible to the masses. We are incredibly proud to have been invited to return to this initiative for the second year in a row.

HUGE THANK YOU to all Dance Sanctuaries organizers and volunteers for facilitating our participation with this incredble platform.

If you missed it check out the recap below, and join us for OUR LAST CLASS OF THE YEAR THIS SATURDAY, Dec. 19, 12:30p ET, at Yoga Heights DC (905 U St NW) – or wukkup with us live online.
